Semi Precious Weapons

High Voltage is extremely proud to know these guys as artists, musicians and friends.
If the rock outrages you then it’s probably being done just right. Cue the New York-to-LA transplants Semi Precious Weapons who in 2006 began thrashing out a most bold and provocative style of glam rock- heavy on the glam- with the gorgeous legs and face of Justin Tranter as its spokesman. Along with Stevy Pyne, Cole Whittle and Dan Crean, Semi Precious Weapons have long been that band who, what they may lack in mainstream recognition, they more than make up for with a hardcore, devoted following, particularly on Hollywood’s infamous Sunset Strip where they’re practically family at venues like the Viper Room and the Roxy. Two albums into their career (2008′s We Love You and 2010′s You Love You) SPW’ music and live shows are rowdy, sometimes shocking and scream about individuality (see their outrageous fashion sense for further: Justin can rock a glittery pair of Stuart Weitzman high heels better than most women), sexual freedom, personal identity, self-expression, rebellion all wrapped up in a glamorous rock and roll lifestyle. Yes, they literally toured the world with Lady Gaga from 2009-2011 and were embraced by her “Little Monsters.” Last year they settled into a house in Los Angeles, and a housewarming party later (which we at High Voltage happily attended) they took on the task of writing album #3. As with all things including music, change and growth are a necessity and SPW have definitely grown. The freshly released track “Aviation High” is a marked musical shift from their hits “Magnetic Baby” and “Semi Precious Weapons”: less AC/DC more M83. But SPW have always been inspired to be the art that they feel and that shows in the music.
