File this under: Music that should be on your radar. Here are the latest bands to make an appearance on High Voltage’s segment during Dirty Glitter with Brody Ramone.

 

BEECAKE

It’s actually completely impossible to Beecake, they are a band that comes in many forms. And you can’t represent the band in just one song. Beecake is composed of four lads from Glasgow, Scotland who share a combined love of music (one of which you may recognize as actor Billy Boyd who was in the Lord of the Rings films as Pippin). Their songs take you on a journey, each one telling it’s own story.

Tonight the ladies of High Voltage have selected “Radio” off Beecake’s album Soul Swimming as their current favorite representation of the band. It’s a rocker that takes a few twists and turns to show you what these guys are made of. If you dig it,  visit Beecake.com to pick up one of their albums.
American Royalty

What seems to be complete and utter disregard for being boxed in by a genre seems to be the mindset that works for American Royalty, a Los Angeles band that threads psychedelic rock, blues, techno and house through the eye of the same needle (yeah, not kidding) and the results are pretty amazing. Fronted by Billy Scher and Marc Gilfry who man electric guitars, loops, synthesizers- whatever necessary to create these grooves- if the Black Keys and Skrillex got freaky and had a kid, that would be American Royalty. Rom their Prismatic EP (freshly released on February 5th) this is “Hungry.”
 
NO- Big Waves
 
New romanticism with sweeping cinematic flair…yes, that’s NO. Despite the nondescript name that’s a nightmare for internet search engines, NO is a quintet from the Echo Park section of Los Angeles who bring a beautiful sense of uplift to post-punk, which is usually known for being a downer. New Zealand native, Bradley Hanan Carter’s rich baritone fronts that band doing they call “post-hymnal anthemic” which manifests in earnest tracks that have weight yet still soar. It’s the stuff of good guitars over a righteous militant drum back beat, melodies and choruses that definitely catch and hold the ear. Somewhere between where the National ends and Interpol begins…that’s where you’ll find NO. Last year they released the five song EP Don’t Worry, You’ll Be Here Forever (which you can download absolutely for free from their website) and that EP made industry folks here in the US and abroad sit up and take notice. So get in on this seriously on the rise band called NO.
