New Year, New Bands- Dirty Glitter and High Voltage Style!
Sorry for the spoiler kids, but the High Voltage segment from last nights show was AMAZING. Here are the latest bands to be featured on Dirty Glitter during my collaboration with High Voltage Magazine. Arcane Roots
Arcane Roots are a three-piece rock band from Kingston Upon Thames, England. Founded by guitarist & vocalist Andrew Groves and drummer Daryl Atkins, the band are known for their energetic and passionate live shows and incorporating progressive music, math rock and metal into a popular song format. Their debut mini-album “Left Fire” was released in February 2011 and received strong reviews from both the press and their peers alike. The band completed their first UK Headline tour in June 2011 and ended the summer with slots at Sonisphere and Heavy Festival. Arcane Roots were asked in September to cover “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana for Kerrang! Magazine’s Nevermind Forever Cover CD, in which they were the only unsigned band.

Harper Blynn
Harper Blynn is comprised of a half-Jewish state champion baseball player from Chicago named Pete Harper, a curly-haired choir boy from Philadelphia called J.Blynn, a first-generation Indian man from Long Island named Sarab Singh and a tall Dutchman by the name of Whynot – yes, that is his name.
J.Blynn and Sarab started making music in middle school. Pete joined up when he met J.Blynn on his first day in college. J.Blynn, Pete and Sarab moved to New York City in 2006. At first, the three lived in a loft on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, made up of four cubicle-like bedrooms with walls that only went halfway up to the ceiling. After a year of not liking this at all, Pete and J.Blynn moved to a tiny box in the East Village and began touring the US regularly in a Toyota Corolla (soon dubbed “the Jackal”), and Sarab moved home to Philadelphia to live with his parents.
While Pete and J.Blynn were on tour in the UK, taking trains and hitchiking across the countryside with two acoustic guitars, they received word from their friends that their tiny apartment had become infested with rats. Upon returning and moving back out to Brooklyn, the band started playing every week on the lower east side of Manhattan and quickly generated a loyal fanbase on the strength of their live show. Sarab made his triumphant return to New York, the three met Whynot, and thus, Harper Blynn was born. Out of the buzz generated in New York City, the band hit the road independently and began touring all over the US.
All of Harper Blynn’s four band members sing, bringing a unified and powerful emotional energy to the music. Lead vocals are shared between the two songwriters, Pete Harper and J.Blynn.
Loneliest Generation is Harper Blynn’s debut album. Recorded over 10 days in New York City, the album was produced by David Kahne (The Strokes, Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney) and Malcolm Burn (Emmylou Harris, Chris Whitley, Kaki King).

Sad Robot
Sad Robot is an L.A. based band on the rise. Their single “Hold On” is featured on the Season 8 Premiere Promo for Bones on FOX. Their unique 3 person wall of sound has enabled them to create their own voice in the indie rock scene. Emotionally charged lyrics combine with a heavy power fuzz sound that spans pop to dirty indie rock. With a high-energy stage show and unique musical style this unsigned band has accomplished a lot in their short existence. In 2011 Sad Robot released their debut album The Beginning of the End. The same year also performed as a Star 98.7/Rocco’s Music Nights finalist as the sole musical guest of the LA Kings at the Staples Center. They are twice nominated by the Hollywood Music and Media awards in the alternative category. Their music has been featured on the Oxygen network show Bad Girls Club and Indie Films. Recently creating a buzz in the digital world, this band has been featured as the new upcoming artist for the Sound Hound app. They have also been featured in many online blogs and sites such as Rdio, Pure Volume, A&R Worldwide, “Blue Mics” House of Rock Podcast, Buzzband LA, Rcrd Lbl, Diffuser, The Vinyl District, 1band 1brand, Ultimate Ears.
